Naperville seeks nominations for local champions for those with disabilities

The Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Disabilities (ACD) is proud to announce the inaugural Community Contributors Awards. This program seeks to recognize Naperville individuals, businesses and organizations who contribute to the independence of people with disabilities. Nominations are now open and all materials must be received by no later than September 1, 2015.
 

There are four categories for which individuals, businesses and organizations can be nominated. They are: Employer of the Year Award for a local business that provides authentic work opportunities for people with disabilities; Accessibility Award for businesses or organizations that exceed the legal standards in making their facilities accessible; Employee of the Year Award for citizens whose employment attests to their individual talents; and Leadership Award: Adult for a disabled citizen 21 years of age or older who is a leader in the area of athletics, art, education, employment or community advocacy.

Candidates can only be nominated in a single category. Nominations must include an essay of at least 200 words describing why the nominee is a worthy candidate and at least one letter of recommendation. Complete rules are available at www.naperville.il.us/acdawards.aspx. Awards will be presented at a date to be decided during Disability Awareness Month in October 2015. Materials should be submitted via mail or in person to the Mayor’s Office, City of Naperville, 400 S. Eagle St., Naperville, IL 60540. No electronic applications will be accepted.
