Wehrli: Democrats’ Unbalanced Budget Flouts Voters’ Demand for Change

State Representative Grant Wehrli (R-Naperville) today voted ‘No” on more sham budget bills pushed through the Illinois House by Speaker Madigan and the Majority Democrats. Wehrli said the Democrats’ proposed budget, crafted behind closed doors, spends $4 billion more than the state will bring in in revenue in Fiscal Year 2016, a clear violation of the Illinois Constitution, and a slap in the face to Illinois voters who in November demanded change.

“In November, voters sent a clear message to Springfield demanding an end to the failed policies that got us into this mess. In response, Speaker Madigan and House Democrats today gave them…more of the same failed policies that got us into this mess,” Representative Wehrli said. “When will the majority party understand that they can’t continue to spend money we don’t have? It gives false hope to those who truly rely on state services, and it’s a slap in the face to families across the state who have demanded change.”
